This web database is an example of how Archives Online can be used to provide web or intranet access to archival descriptions.

The web specific forms in this demonstration do not come standard with Archives Online, though they are available for purchase. DB/Text WebPublisher or the use of Andornot's hosting service is required to make databases created with Archives Online available on the web.

The sample database contains over 400 descriptive records (provided by the City of Richmond Archives) which represent material typically found in archives.  There a few records with images, click here to see reports with thumbnails and full size images.

Search Tips

Within search boxes:

  • Use & for AND
    (fish & cannery)
  • Use / for OR
    (fish / cannery)
  • Use ! for NOT
    (fish ! cannery)

Special Characters:

  • Use * to truncate
    (e.g. fish* finds
    fish,
    fishing,
    fisheries, etc.)
  • Use >, <, >=, <= for greater or less than
    (e.g. <= 1999 finds dates earlier than 1999 inclusive)
  • Use : to search a range
    (e.g. 1999:2003, example:sample)
